WORKMATES Pallet Trucks

WORKMATES Pallet Trucks

WORKMATES pallet trucks are designed to meet the needs of many working environments. They are compact, easy to maneuver and fit in tight spaces. They are also ideal for retail settings and delivery applications.

To move a load, put the control lever in the down position and pump the handle to raise the forks. Always keep the load centered and steer clear of inclines.

Hydraulic system

A pallet truck’s hydraulic system allows it to lift and lower heavy loads. It consists of a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic cylinder, and hydraulic fluid. When the operator pumps the handle, it activates the hydraulic pump and creates pressure that causes the cylinder to extend. This extends the forks of the pallet jack, lifting the load off the ground. To control the speed at which the forks are lifted, a system of valves is used.

Manual hydraulic pallet trucks use a simple hydraulic system to operate, making them ideal for material handling in environments that aren’t suitable for electric power or larger equipment. They’re also ergonomically designed to minimize operator fatigue and increase Lifting Equipment workplace productivity. They’re a great alternative to forklifts in warehouses where space is limited and require minimal maintenance.

When moving a pallet truck, it is important to pay attention to your surroundings. Check for people and objects that may obstruct the path you’re taking. Keeping your eye out for obstacles can help you avoid costly mistakes.

If your pallet truck’s forks don’t pump or lower, it could be due to a blocked lowering valve. This can be fixed by loosening the lowering valve screw slightly. Once it’s loosened, you can pump the handle again and lower the forks. It is recommended that you do this on a regular basis to prevent damage and maintain the efficiency of your pallet truck’s hydraulic system.

Forks

The forks on a pallet truck are designed to be used in conjunction with a pallet. They have prongs which are able to fit into the fork openings of the pallet and which are then moved to lift the load from the floor. The prongs are raised to a height of about 4 – 6 inches, which allows for safe and easy movement of the pallet across a warehouse floor.

The front wheels which are present inside the end of the forks are mounted on levers which are attached to linkages that lead up to a hydraulic jack piston at the ’tiller’ end of the pallet jack handle. When this piston rises, it forces the linkages down which, in turn, causes the wheels and the forks to raise vertically until they clear the floor.

When a worker moves the pallet jack over an incline, it is always best to pull the load rather than push it. This creates greater manoeuvrability and also allows the operator to keep an eye on any pedestrians in the area which could potentially trip over the raised forks. However, if a pallet truck has to be pushed then it is important that the forks are not raised too high as this can cause damage to the floor and any items on the load.

Wheels

The wheels and tires of a pallet truck are important parts that need regular maintenance. Wheels that are not in good condition cause additional wear on the hydraulic pump and can present a safety hazard for your employees. Routine inspections should include checking for cracks in the hub, chunks missing from the tread or debris embedded in the wheels. If you notice any of these signs, it is time to replace the wheels of your pallet jack. Typically, both steer and load wheels need to be replaced when they wear down a quarter inch or more.

Polyurethane wheels are ideal for retail environments because Lifting Equipment they leave no marks on floors and are quieter than nylon wheels. However, frequent trips on rough surfaces like dock ramps and warehouse floors can damage these wheels and break them down. If you work in a warehouse or distribution area, nylon wheels are better suited for your needs. These wheels can handle rough conditions and resist penetration from debris much more effectively than polyurethane wheels.

When selecting the right wheels for your pallet jack, you must consider where and how you will use it. If you will only be using it in your warehouse, nylon wheels are more durable than polyurethane and will last longer. If you will be taking the pallet jack outside to load and unload trucks, consider using polyurethane wheels. These will last longer and hold up to rough environments like frozen floor conditions or bumpy loading docks.

Battery

The battery of a pallet truck is a crucial component that determines the power of the vehicle and how long it can operate. Lithium-ion batteries are becoming a more common power choice for electric pallet trucks. However, whether lithium is the right power option for your operation depends on the unique needs of your facility and operations.

Compared to lead-acid, lithium-ion batteries offer more consistent power throughout the shift. They also provide a longer battery life. For instance, a Pedestrian powered pallet truck with a 56 Ah lithium-ion battery will be able to work for up to 3.5 hours without having to recharge, which is a substantial increase in the run time compared to a similar lead-acid-powered unit.

Another advantage of lithium-ion is that it charges up to 80% in less than 3 hours and can be plugged in during the break between pallet loads. This allows your operator to continue working and minimizes downtime while ensuring that the unit is ready to go when needed.

EP’s range of lithium ride-on pallet trucks are designed with visibility in mind, enabling the driver to move quickly and safely around your warehouse floor. This is important for the safety of your operators and to help you meet your operational requirements set out in PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) and ACOP L117.
